The knife is equipped with a patented ViroBloc safety lock - not only against closing the blade, but also against opening it.

- Beech wood handle is pleasant to the touch
- ViroBloc lock – allows the knife to be fixed open or closed
- Hand wash recommended
Wood
95% of the wood used to make the handles comes from sustainably managed French forests. There is no excessive deforestation and no air pollution during long transport – all of this means less strain on nature. The main wood supplier has its forests in the French Jura region and is of course PEFC certified.
Handle
Beech wood is most often used to make Opinel knife handles. Beeches originating from France are hard, durable and easy to work with. The handles have a uniform appearance and their light color ranges from yellow to pink. Beech handles are characterized by the presence of numerous small dark lines.
Safety first
The ViroBloc safety lock reliably prevents the knife from opening and closing by itself. The simple but still unsurpassed safety ring was invented by Marcel Opinel back in 1955. Virobloc is part of all folding knives from N°06 onwards. In addition to locking the blade of the open knife, which ensures its absolutely safe use (it will not fold by itself even under great pressure), ViroBloc also locks the blade when closed, so you can carry any knife equipped with this safety lock with you without any worries.
Carbon steel
The XC90 carbon steel blade is extremely hard, ensuring excellent cutting quality, good wear resistance and easy resharpening. The carbon steel from which the first iconic Opinel knife was created has been adapted to today's requirements, which is why the carbon content in the steel is approximately 0.90%. This carbon steel is produced in Germany, but the processing of the steel in the art of knifemaking is completed in the Opinel factories in France. This type of steel is very easy to sharpen, but it is more demanding to maintain. We recommend cleaning the blade as soon as possible after each use to prevent corrosion.
Opinel - a design icon
The story of the now iconic Opinel brand begins in the 19th century, when merchant Victor-Amédée Opinel learned to forge nails during his travels and subsequently founded his forge in France. After his death, his son Daniel took over the craft, becoming the local farmers' "sharps maker" because the blades of his sickles and scythes were widely acclaimed as the sharpest possible. However, the real Opinel - a folding pocket knife - had to wait a while for its discovery. Daniel Opinel's eldest son, Joseph, decided to follow in his father's footsteps and, driven by artistic passion, combined handcrafting with the most modern technology at the time and created a small miracle. The year was 1890 and the Opinel folding pocket knife saw the light of day, a knife loved from day one and passed down from generation to generation. The knife, which over the years has gained hundreds of thousands of fans around the world, has become a common part of many households and, in a way, one of the symbols of all of France...
Nowadays, the company produces not only legendary folding outdoor knives, but also has a sophisticated kitchen program, including forged kitchen knives; you can also buy stainless steel cutlery and steak knives from the Opinel brand today.
